Bastardry

noun (slang) -

1. malicious or cruel behaviour.
2. something vicious, despicable, irregular or thoroughly disliked.

The default category for Dave’s blog posts (and his real life as well, to be entirely honest).

The posts in this section are a step towards cataloguing all that is wrong with the world, its people, and life in general. Some of them may also be Dave having a bit of a bitch for no good reason, which is in many ways the most important way to make use of the internet.

Of Mice and Cats

Friday, January 27th, 2012

I have two cats. The first was rescued from a life on the streets, and was probably a feral kitten. Stouffer is still distinctly undergrown and much prefers stealing food to eating that which he’s given (although this may just be a commentary on Whiskas) The second was donated by a family who had a [...]

British Christianity

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

David Cameron has announced that Britain is a Christian country. That’s sort-of true – we have a state religion, even (the Church of England). But British Christianity, British religion, isn’t particularly zealous. Most of us don’t go to church (or mosque, or temple). We pay lip service to the religion that our parents had, but [...]

Racists Are From Venus

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

I grew up and still live in inner-city Manchester, so I’m used to ethnic diversity. On the other hand, I went to (almost entirely white) Roman Catholic schools and I’ve got an xbox live account¹ so I’m – unfortunately – familiar with hateful racism². I’m distressingly familiar with the argument “I’m not racist, but” – which [...]

Could TV Shows Be Improved By Only Showing The Last 10 Mins?

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

In my unending quest (I’ve just started it actually) to improve the quality and enjoyability of British TV viewing, I have decided to compile a list of TV shows that would be very much improved by only showing the last ten minutes of each of them. Here are the shows that I propose should be [...]

#Occupy

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

There are a lot of protests going on all around the world right at the moment, which means that wherever you live you can’t have failed to notice that people are getting a bit pissed off with the ruling elite. I can’t argue with that. In Libya, Egypt and Syria – all across the Arab [...]

Hijacking Remembrance

Friday, November 11th, 2011

I quite like Remembrance Day. I donate to the Royal British Legion (only a couple of quid), I wear a poppy, I observe a silence. I remember and appreciate the sacrifices people made to create a country I could be proud of living in – one that battled intolerance, tyranny and segregation. I like that [...]

Slacktivism

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

I have a Facebook account. I’m not entirely sure why I have a Facebook account, because it basically alternates between boring the shit out of me and irritating me (hi, Facebook friends!) but I have one nevertheless. One of the things which is increasingly common on Facebook (and other social media – Google+, I’m looking [...]

Heatwave

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Just for the record, today is not ”a glorious day”. Nor is it “a lovely day for a walk”, or a “pleasant extra bit of summer”. It is a grotesque travesty inflicted upon us by the unflinching, ever-burning daystar, which we must all endure with typical British stoicism. We should certainly not be running about enjoying the [...]

Avatar Dress-Up

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

If you’re familiar with Xbox Live then you’ll be aware that it allows you to make a little avatar of yourself and dress him how you please. This doesn’t achieve anything (there are a few games which use the xbox avatars, but they’re pretty universally shit); your avatar pretty much just exists as a representation [...]

Zombie Aid 2 – Carl Whiteley

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

In my previous post about Zombie Aid, I promised Carl Whiteley and Zombie Aid the opportunity to respond. I wanted to give Carl time to respond both publically (via the various Zombie Aid websites and facebook groups), and privately (via e-mail). Public Response Carl did so. His first public statement was: I would have thought [...]
